All battle mechanic changes in Hacker's Memory

The following data comes from a combination of the officially-licensed V Jump Books Hacker's Memory guide, translating from Japanese to English, and from direct evaluation of the Japanese and English games.

No Digimon stats were changed in the transition between Cyber Sleuth and Hacker's Memory. Instead, changes were made to all three Skill types, Inheritable, Special, and Support, as well as to equipment slots. Certain Digimon have had SP costs reduced for some Specials, their chance of inflicting secondary effects increased, or even entire abilities replaced. This list only covers changes to existing Digimon, not new Digimon introduced in Hacker's Memory, and focuses on Perfect, Ultimate, and Super Ultimate-level Digimon.

General mechanic changes
  • The Neutral Inheritable Skills (Power Energy/Heavy Strike/Mach Rush) now have the "Always Hits" property, ensuring that every Digimon can now have a counter to evasion-based strategies.
  • On status effect duration; Confusion ends after 2~4 turns, Paralysis after 3~5 turns, Sleep after 1~3 turns, Stun after 1 turn, Poison after 3~4 turns, and Dot after 2~4 turns. Support nullification after 5 turns. All status buffs end after 5 turns, while all counter skills end after 3. Digimon can now act on the same turn that they wake up from Sleep.
  • The maximum Ability is now 200, rather than the 100 of the first game. This puts the maximum number of bonus stats at 150.
  • Most Digimon with Piercing Specials have had their Attack/Intelligence multiplier reduced, and their descriptions do not specify how large the multiplier is. Instead they call the output damage "medium," (中) "large," (大) or "heavy/extra-large." (特大)
  • Most Digimon with standard damaging Specials have seen either a +5 or a +10 buff to that Special's base power. A few examples can be seen under "Special Skill changes."
  • Unless otherwise mentioned below, any Special Skill that inflicts a status effect has now had its probability to inflict it raised or lowered to make that probability exactly 40%.
Inheritable Skill changes
  • Dispel and Restore now cost 25 SP rather than 8. This serves to more strictly limit one of the most popular strategies from the late Cyber Sleuth's metagame; using Dispel to shrug off the Attack decrease incurred by using Shine Greymon: Burst Mode's Final Shining Burst.
  • Seven of the status error moves have been reduced to 70% accuracy instead of 100%: Texture Blow, Panic Wisp, Shock, Venom Trap, Idle Bubble, Ripping Net, and Character Reverse.
  • Support End is the only status move to retain 100% accuracy.
Support Skill changes
  • #324 Magnamon's Miracle now has a 10% chance of reducing damage by 75%, instead of reducing damage by 30%.
  • #219 Alphamon's Hermitic Loner now increases the damage dealt to Royal Knight Digimon by 50%, instead of 20%. This puts it on a level playing field with the new Counterattack, Armagemon's Support Skill.
  • #249 Shine Greymon: Burst Mode's Shining Burst now increases the damage the party receives from magical attacks by 50%. Previously the Support increased the damage from Dark-attribute attacks by 25%. The Attack increase from the Skill is still only 25%. This is likely in reaction to how overwhelming Burst teams were late in Sleuth's life.
  • #150 Aero V-dramon & #220 Ulforce V-dramon's Swiftness now only affects the user.
Special Skill changes
  • #168 Skull Greymon's Oblivion Bird now has a 50% chance to reduce the target's Defense by 10%, instead of a 30% chance.
  • #191 Black King Numemon's Dark Pupil now has an 80% chance to inflict Poison, not 20%.
  • #192 Blue Meramon's Cold Flame now always buffs their Intelligence by 10%, rather than having a 10% chance to do so.
  • #200 Mega Seadramon's Lightning Javelin now has an added 40% chance to Paralyze.
  • #205 Metal Tyrannomon's Nuclear Laser now always increases their Defense by 10%, instead of having a 30% chance to do so.
  • #207 Monzaemon's Lovely Attack/Hearts Attack was originally a Piercing Neutral Special that ignored the target's Intelligence and had a 10% chance to Stun. Its cost has been reduced from 30 SP to 20, and it has been changed into a restorative Special that heals one ally for 50% (singleplayer) or 10% of their maximum HP (multiplayer) and increases their Attack, Defense, and Intelligence by 10%.
  • #211 Rapidmon (Perfect)'s Golden Triangle now has a 10% chance to increase all of their base stats by 10%, instead of a 5% chance to do so.
  • #212 Lilymon's Flow' Cannon/Flower Cannon now has an added 50% chance to Paralyze.
  • #213 Lucemon: Falldown Mode's Dead or Alive has had its base power increased by 20.
  • #216 Were Garurumon (Black)'s Engetsugeri/Full Moon Kick now always increases his Speed by 10% instead of having a 10% chance to do so.
  • #219 Alphamon's Seiken Grandalpha/Blade of the Dragon King has been changed to a single 150 physical Light-attribute hit to one enemy. Formerly it dealt 3~6 Light-attribute physical attacks to one enemy, with each hit having a base power of 30.
  • #220 Ulforce V-dramon's Shining V Force/The Ray of Victory now always increases their Speed by 10%, instead of having a 10% chance to do so.
  • #221 EBEmon's Brain Rupture has had its chance to inflict Confusion raised to 50%, from 20%.
  • #227 Venom Vamdemon's Venom Infuse/Venom Infusion has had its chance to inflict Poison raised to 50%, from 30%.
  • #228 War Greymon's Brave Tornado/Great Tornado now says it deals "large" damage rather than "double," and the attribute has been changed from Fire to Neutral.
  • #230 Gaioumon/Gaiomon's Rinkazan/Will-'O-Wisp Slash now deals two 70-power hits, not 65.
  • #236 Kuzuhamon's Taizoukai Mandala now always hits regardless of accuracy.
  • The cost of #237 Gran Kuwagamon's Dimension Scissor has been reduced from 40 SP to 35 SP, and it now deals "large" damage, not "double." Further testing needed.
  • #242 Cherubimon (Vice)/Kerpymon (Black)'s Lightning Spear now deals "large" damage, not "double." Further testing needed.
  • #249 Shine Greymon: Burst Mode's Final Shining Burst now decreases their Attack by 50% after use, instead of 10%, and its accuracy has been reduced to 90%.
  • #250 Justimon's Justice Kick has its probability to buff all stats by 50% raised to a 5% probability, from 1%.
  • #257 Titamon's Konpaku Shingeki/Soul Core Attack has had its SP cost reduced from 40 to 30, and now deals "large" damage rather than "double." Further testing needed.
  • #259 Dianamon's Good Night Moon has had its base power reduced from 125 to 120, and its chance to inflict Sleep reduced from 100% to 50%.
  • #262 Dukemon's Royal Saber/Lightning Joust has had its chance to increase Defense by 10% raised to a 50% probability, from 30%.
  • #263 Dynasmon's Dragon's Roar now deals two hits of 60, not two hits of 55.
  • #265 Duftmon's Ernste Welle/Black Aura Blast now decreases the opponent's Defense by 20% instead of 10%.
  • #272 Banchou Leomon's Flash Banchou Punch/Flashy Boss Punch has had its chance of inflicitng Stun reduced from 75% to 50%.
  • #273 Piemon's Trump Sword now inflicts the Support End status error.
  • #274 Pinocchimon's Bullet Hammer/Puppet Pummel has had its chance of incliting Stun raised to 50%, from 25%.
  • #276 Black War Greymon's Dark Gaia Force/Dark Terra Force now decreases the opponent's Attack by 20% instead of 10%, and Black Tornado deals "large" Dark-attribute damage, not "double." Further testing needed.
  • #277 Prince Mamemon's Smiley Warhead/Smile Warhead has had its base power reduced to 110, from 130. In exchange, it now always inflicts Knockback.
  • #280 Herakle Kabuterimon's Giga Blaster now has a base power of 130, not 120.
  • #282 Beelzebumon: Blast Mode's Chaos Flare/Corona Destroyer now deals "large" Dark-attribute damage, not "double." Further testing needed.
  • #283 Belphemon: Sleep Mode's Eternal Nightmare now deals "medium" Dark-attribute damage. Further testing needed.
  • #285 Holydramon's Holy Flame/Fire Tornado now has a base power of 95, formerly 80.
  • #297 Metal Garurumon has lost the Garuru Tomahawk Special, which has been replaced by Cocytus Breath. Cocytus Breath costs 20 SP, deals 115 Water-attribute magical damage to a single target, and has a 25% chance to Paralyze. #298 Metal Garurumon (Black) retains the Garuru Tomahawk Special.
  • #299 Metal Seadramon's Ultimate Stream/River of Power now has a base power of 130, not 120.
  • #301 Rust Tyrannomon's Terrors Cluster now has a 50% chance to inflict Paralysis, not 25%.
  • #303 Lilithmon's Phantom Pain now deals "heavy" damage, not "triple." Direct testing demonstrates that the exact multiplier for her Intelligence is now 2.5x instead of 3x.
  • #306 Lord Knightmon's Argent Fear/Fist of Athena has had its SP cost reduced from 50 to 40, and deals "heavy" damage not "triple." (Same wording as the new Lilithmon.) Further testing needed.
  • #313 Imperialdramon: Paladin Mode has had its chance to inflict Dot raisedto 30%, from 10%.
  • #314 Examon's Pendragon's Glory now deals 145 Wind damage rather than 135.
  • #315 Omegamon's Garuru Cannon/Supreme Cannon now deals "large" Intelligence-Piercing Water-attribute damage to one foe. Previously it dealt 130 Water-attribute magical damage to a single target; the old version of the Special is retained by Omegamon NX.
  • #316 Omegamon Zwart's Garuru Cannon/Supreme Cannon is the same as the new Omegamon's.
  • #321 Belphemon: Rage Mode's Gift of Darkness has had its SP cost reduced from 60 to 40, and now deals "heavy" Dark-attribute damage to one foe, not "triple." (Same wording as the new Lilithmon.) Further testing needed.
  • #322 Lucemon: Satan Mode's Divine Atonement has had its SP cost increased from 30 to 50. It now deals 200 magical Light-attribute damage to all foes, and decreases the user's Intelligence by 50% if it hits. Its accuracy has been reduced to 90%. Previously it dealt 105 Light-attribute damage to all foes.
  • #323 Fladramon's Knuckle Fire/Flaming Fist has had its base power increased to 70, from 50.
  • #324 Magnamon's S-Gold Solar Storm now increases their Defense by 15%, formerly 10%.
  • #325 Rapidmon (Armor)'s Golden Triangle now has a 20% chance to increase all of their basic stats by 10%. Previously the description stated it always worked.
Equipment Slots
Almost all Perfect-level and equivalent Digimon now have 3 equpiment slots. The exceptions are;
  • Atlur Kabuterimon, Aero V-dramon, Zudomon, Whamon, Monzaemon and Magnamon are unchanged from the previous game. All of them have 2 slots except for Aero, who has 1.
  • Cyberdramon, Metal Greymon, Metal Greymon (Blue) and Lucemon: Falldown Mode all gained another slot, putting them at 2.
  • Garmmon and Omega Shoutmon are newly introduced, but only have 2 slots.
In kind, many of the Ultimate and Super Ultimate-level Digimon have 3 equipment slots in Hacker's Memory. The following 56 Digimon have less than 3 equipment slots.
  • Arkadimon Ultimate, Alphamon, Ulforce V-dramon, Chaos Dukemon, Craniummon, Sleipmon, Dukemon, Beelzebumon, Belphemon: Sleep Mode, Mastemon, Leviamon, Armagemon, Alphamon Ouryuuken, and Susanoomon have 1 slot.

No region restriction on Digimon tournaments in Hacker's Memory, user titles mistranslated

The fortnightly "event battle" page, which currently hosts rules allowing only Digimon of Adult level or lower.

With the international launch of Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker's Memory on PlayStation 4 and Vita over January 19th, the English-speaking world has been brought into the fold of the ongoing Adult Digimon tournament that began in Japan earlier this month. The revelation comes as a surprise to some, as the most recent tournament has been themed around Japanese New Year's. In light of the culturally-specific Kagami Mochi accessories being the primary multiplayer reward, and the event itself already being several days in-progress, up to now it was not unthinkable that English-speaking territories would have their own separate track of events.

This news may be for the best; while a handful of player titles and accessories remain Japan-exclusive for the time being due to the earlier launch of Hacker's Memory in Asia, in the long term all of these will become available to all players regardless of their language or country of origin. The current Japan exclusives are as follows:
  • Santa Hat
  • Black Santa Hat
  • Green Santa Hat
  • Present Box (White)
  • Present Box (Red)
  • Present Box (Gold)
  • Ryuji avatar
  • Ryuji (Hospital) avatar
  • Shiga Youji avatar
  • Kayaba Tooru avatar
  • The titles Christsmasher, Light Fang, and Crusader (from the Christmas tournament)
  • The titles Happy Omegamon, Chosen Child, and Command Tamer (from the Omegamon New Year's tournament)

The current event is fairly easy to jump into, as bonus stats are ignored, the Memory limit is a paltry 30, and it only requires relatively lower-end Digimon compared to the main Ranked mode. Thus the headstart from getting the game early doesn't confer nearly as much of an advantage on Japanese Digimon tamers, making the current theme ideal for westerners to join in on.

For those seeking to get started, some of the recommended Digimon include Tankmon for his damage output, and XV-mon or Greymon (Blue) for the Dragon's Wrath Support. The only must-have Inheritable Skill in this event is the damage-doubling Acceleration Boost, which can be picked up at level 10 from Tyrannomon and Fladramon, at level 18 from Monochromon, or at level 25 from Greymon and Agnimon. (Fladramon and Agnimon require storyline progress to unlock their respective evolution items, the Digimental of Courage and Human Spirit of Fire.)

Although the rewards in the Coin Shop remain the same across languages, some titles have been mistranslated in the transition from Japanese to English;
  • The title "Crack Team," named after the group in Digimon's base canon, has been mistranslated as "Crank Team." This could be from a misreading of クラック Kurakku as クランク Kuranku.
  • The title "Hypnos," named after the NSA-like espionage organization in Digimon Tamers, has somehow become "Hypnotizer."
  • The title "Xros Heart General," named after Kudou Taiki's title in Digimon Xros Wars, was rendered as "Cross Heart General." Something similar happened with a tutorial on the Xros Combo mechanic back in Cyber Sleuth. Note however that Xros is presented correctly on the same page of the shop, in the title "Xros Wars."
  • Though not a title, the Kagami Mochi hats were left as-is while the Kagami Mochimon hat was rendered literally as "Mirror Motimon," seemingly not picking up on the pun.
On a localization note, while the "Crest of Purity" has been made into the "Crest of Sincerity" and "Crest of Honesty" into "Crest of Reliability" in accordance with the Digimon: Digital Monsters English dub, curiously the titles not associated with the first season do not use their localized equivalents. The title "Wild Bunch" would normally be replaced with "Monster Makers" to match the English dub of Digimon Tamers, yet goes untouched; in kind, "The Best Bancho" would ordinarily be translated as "The Best Street Fighter," "Cross Heart General" would be rendered "Fusion Fighter General," "Twilight General" would become "Midnight General," and "Death General" as "Dark General."

Instead these titles have all been left alone in translation, and the titles that refer to the individual works by their Japanese names (Adventure, Tamers, Frontier, Savers, Xros Wars, X-Evolution) have likewise remained the same.

The current Battle Missions remain identical to their Japanese counterparts, with the reward for fully clearing all three being a King's Crown as was the case in previous tournaments.

Adult-level Digimon tournament begins in Japan

"[Event Battle] Adult and lower no-duplicates tournament"
At 2:00 PM January 15th Japanese Standard Time the second Hacker's Memory tournament Shin'nen! Akemashite Omegamon came to a close, and the game's third event battle began. The theme of the next tournament, which will continue through the 31st, is "Adults and lower/No duplicates."

 The rules of the tournament are as follows;
  • Level 50 fixed/Bonus stats invalid
  • 30 Memory limit
  • Party members may only be Adult level or lower
  • You may not use more than one of the same Digimon in your party
Tamers are permitted to use Shoutmon (who has no level, but evolves from Koromon) but not Omega Shoutmon. Sistermon Noir and Blanc's respective Awakened forms may also be used, as can the Child-level Lucemon. The Memory size for most Adult-level Digimon ranges from 6~8, while the Awakened Sistermons are both 18 Memory in size, and Lucemon is 14.

These are the new Battle Missions for the tournament. The reward for completing all Battle Missions is, once again, a King Crown.

Mission 1

  • Rank 1.) Use the "Attack" command 10 or more times in battle. (Counterattacks & Combos count.) (300 coins)
  • Rank 2.) Use the "Attack" command 15 or more times in battle. (550 coins & "Berserker" title)
  • Rank 2.) Use the "Attack" command 20 or more times in battle. (1000 coins & "Silver Crown" title)
Mission 2
  • Rank 1.) Deal 200 or more damage total in one attack to all of the opponent's Digimon. (500 coins)
  • Rank 2.) Deal 400 or more damage total in one attack to all of the opponent's Digimon. (900 coins & "Crack Team" title)
  • Rank 3.) Deal 600 or more damage total in one attack to all of the opponent's Digimon. (1800 coins & "Gold Crown" accessory)
Mission 3
  • Rank 1.) Use Special Skills 3 or more times. (150 coins)
  • Rank 2.) Use Special Skills 8 or more times. (300 coins & "Reaper" title)
  • Rank 3.) Use Special Skills 15 or more times. (600 coins & "Bronze Crown" accessory)
The aforementioned Lucemon is ideal for meeting all of the second mission requirements, as a single Accel Boosted Grand Cross can complete all three ranks in one battle.

The pool of bots matchable for the event has been rotated out to match its themes, but the restrictions make them somewhat more difficult compared to those faced in preceding tournaments, as they continue to use the inflated states normally reserved for matching up against teams of Ultimate and Super Ultimate Digimon. Confirmed AI opponents include;
  • 015CAFEDEOSUWARI - Gabumon & Agumon
  • 014MIKATAWASMALL - Tokomon, Pabumon & Mochimon
  • 028HACHIDORICHAN - Zanbamon, Leomon & Lucemon (Child)
  • 046DEGIMONDAISKI - Lunamon, Patamon & Lucemon (Child)
  • 029KAIJUDAISENSO - V-dramon, Bao Hackmon & Geo Greymon
  • 039ANIMALSGARDEN - Birdramon, Sorcerimon & Kyuubimon
The rewards in the coin shop remain the same as the previous month, including the Chitose and Nokia avatars. The contents will change along with the event itself on February 1st.
  • Kagami Mochi (White) - 200 coins
  • Kagami Mochi (Festive) - 200 coins
  • Kagami Mochi (Gold) - 5000 coins
  • Kagami Mochimon (Doll) - 200 coins
  • Chitose - 1000 coins
  • Chitose (In-patient) - 1000 coins
  • Nokia - 1000 coins
Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker's Memory will launch worldwide on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita January 19th, 2018.

Notes on Phantom Pain
Both the description and effect of this Special have been changed
Original: 単体に闇属性の威力3倍の知力貫通ダメージ。35%の確率で敵を猛毒にする。
"INT-penetrating attack, triple Dark damage to one foe. 35% chance of poisoning target."

New: 敵1体に闇属性の威力特大の知力槓子攻撃。対象の35%の確率で猛毒にする。
"INT-penetrating attack, heavy Dark damage to one foe. 35% chance of poisoning target."
Direct testing demonstrates that Phantom Pain deals damage equal to 2.5x Lilithmon's Intelligence, rather than 3x as was the case in in Cyber Sleuth.

One aspect not described in the text is that Phantom Pain has a heavier cooldown than most Skills, in multiplayer delaying Lilithmon's turn by more than ten turns in the timeline. (i.e. all of the opposing Digimon move, then all of Lilithmon's allies move, then all of the opposing Digimon move, then Lilithmon gets a turn along with her allies.) For comparison, standard Attack and Guard commands have a five-turn delay, and tier III Inheritable Skills have an eight-turn delay.

On the other hand, Lilithmon now has two accessory slots rather than just one.

Notes on Omega Shoutmon
Reflecting his higher Memory cost, Omega's stats are on par with other fully evolved Digimon. (They compare favorably with King Etemon.) The only thing worryingly low is Intelligence, which is barely higher than Megidramon's. Heavy Metal Vulcan is point-for-point stronger than War Greymon's Gaia Force, and Hard Rock Damashii is completely identical to Gaioumon's Rinkazan.

Notes on Omegamon species
Omegamon NX retains the version of Garuru Cannon used in Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth. The original Omegamon and Zwart have an arguably-better version that pierces Defense but delays Omegamon's next turn in exchange.

NXEDGE Style blocks Stun, Paralysis, Poison, Dot/Liquid Crystallization, Sleep, and Bug. It is different from the NXEDGE Style Skill held by Alphamon NX, Dukemon NX, Lord Knightmon NX, and Duftmon NX.

Digimon World -next 0rder- Coming to Taiwan in June, No PS4 Port

April 15th, 2016. Bandai Namco Entertainment Taiwan announced that the PlayStation Vita game Digimon World -next 0rder- will be coming to the island country on June 9th, 2016. Like Cyber Sleuth, which Taiwan got a translation of ahead of western gamers in November 2015, the game currently appears to be in undubbed Japanese but with traditional Chinese subtitles and in-game text.  But unlike Sleuth, the game will exclusively be brought over on the PlayStation Vita, with no PlayStation 4 port having been announced. No word has been given as to whether or not -next 0rder- will be coming to English-speaking countries; previously Sleuth debuted in North America and Europe about 70 days after it did in Taiwan.

This is a key localization for Bandai, as it marks the first time in over seventeen years that a World game has been localized in Chinese. Initial screenshots already show successful implementation of Chinese text in gameplay, suggesting that progress on the translation has been ongoing for some time. Bandai Taiwan reuploaded one of the game's primary official trailers to YouTube, which is in Chinese-subtitled Japanese. Unlike Bandai of Japan, Taiwan has chosen to present the title as -Next Order- online, whereas other sources like @Digimon_game use -next 0rder-.

First Cyber Sleuth Mission Pack on PSN

February 9th, 2016. A first set of free Cyber Sleuth DLC was added to the PlayStation Network today, containing three additional purple quests for tamers to complete. The DLC uses Sayo of Digimon Story Moonlight as its icon, suggesting that the Dianamon quests that were reported absent from the Vita version and some PS4 copies of the game will be implemented in the following weeks as free DLC.

The first Mission Pack does not add Dianamon to the Field Guide; #195 is still missing from the list after installation. Mission Pack 1 is available for both PlayStation Vita and PS4 users.

Global Cyber Sleuth 1.03 Patch Rolls Out

February 5th, 2016. The global 1.03 patch for Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth went out in all regions today, simultaneous to the game's European launch. The patch ensures that Japanese, North American, and European copies of Cyber Sleuth can all play against one another in Ranking Battle, and adds a region display to users' PSN names when playing online. The patch was announced by Famitsu on the 3rd, and for Japanese copies of the game it also added Hard Mode and New Game+ support.

As more tamers install the patch, it is now carrying a significant effect on the global leaderboard. Many tamers' ranks are dropping now that there are more of them accessing the Ranking Battle feature, with the top 100 changing for the first time in several weeks. Although no known American players have made it into the top 100 as of yet, the most visible change is that Hiroki_tomo--a dedicated Japanese tamer who has been consistently logged into Ranked every day for several weeks--has risen one place in the top 25.

Hiroki_tomo was previously tied with 24 other tamers for the #2 spot, with their score having been maxed out long ago and their placement now dependent entirely on total wins. They are joined by mtpamtpa, who rocketed up from 34th to 2nd in a span of about two weeks.

Voice Acted Scenes Removed in English Localization of Cyber Sleuth (Vita Only)

02/03/16 Update: Further investigations by fans have demonstrated that Dianamon and the Mirei quests are also not available on some copies of the PlayStation 4 version, though the voice issue has still only been documented on the Vita.

February 2nd, 2016. Several hours after the North American launch of Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, it has become apparent that many minor and major scenes that originally had a voice track in the Japanese edition of Cyber Sleuth have had those tracks removed in the Vita version of its English localization. An exact count is hard to pin down at this time, but one scene that stands out is when the player meets with Yuuko in chapter 4; during this sequence Yuuko tries to act like a "normal high school girl," leading to her voice actor Itou Kanae putting on a stellar performance pretending to be a bad actor. ("You're *so* late... I got *ultra-super* worried.") Other scenes with removed dialogue include a confrontation with a major boss in chapter 6, and the player’s formal introduction to police detective Date Makiko. The removed voiced sequences are still present in the PlayStation 4 version of the game, as are several purple downloadable quests not available in the Vita game. These quests were available in the Japanese edition of Cyber Sleuth, which was exclusively on the Vita.

The localization has been far from perfect, with punctuation errors abounding in the script, from missing periods to uses of "it's" instead of "its." There are also several questionable translation choices, like choosing to call one of the core dungeons of the game "Kowloon" instead of the more accepted "Coulomb" or "Cron." (All three are written クーロン Kuuron in Japanese, and the area is officially written in English as "Cool-wrong" in one area of the Japanese game, which phonetically approximates how the name is said aloud.) The localization translates the Garakuta (Junk) Park as "Galacta Park," yet retains a dialogue in which an NPC says that the park is made of junk, resulting in the character claiming the park to be "made of Galacta." At another point, Shiramine Nokia says "Looks like he's not here" rather than "they're" while looking for two Digimon. As a whole the text appears not to have been proofread. Jarringly, Detective Matayoshi still refers to Kuremi Kyoko as "Kyo-chan" in the English script; thus far no other honorifics have been found to be used.

First Gameplay Impressions of Digimon World -next 0rder-

Demo play site, uploaded by @digimon_info
Over December 19th and 20th fans could demo Digimon World -next 0rder- at Jump Festa 2016. The simulation RPG drew a crowd soon after opening its doors, with waiting lines for the game being around 20 minutes; each player was allotted 5 minutes of time with the game, and given a pair of Agumon and Gabumon stickers for playing. Here's a collection of first impressions from various players that posted on Twitter and other blog sites about their experiences.

From Digimon Headline
Rough impression of gameplay. First of all, even though I had two partners, the hunger and toilet timing was the same. This time it was Agumon and Gabumon, but what happens when the partners' ages are different is unknown... Also, after battle both partners run over to below the protagonist, and their Happiness  stat can be adjusted by praising or scolding them.

(The Happiness (なつき度 natsuki-do "emotional degree") they're referring to is probably the same Happiness from the original Digimon World and Re:Digitize/Decode that reflects a Digimon's attachment to its tamer. Ordinarily both Happiness and Discipline act as regulating factors that affect a Digimon's natural evolution, with Discipline increasing as Happiness decreases, and vice-versa. Interestingly, none of the first play impressions have mentioned Discipline as being in -next 0rder-; the stat may be absent from the game.)

From Digimon Headline
The after-battle fanfare and menu selection sounds were similar to the original Digimon World. It feels a little nostalgic.
From Sasakani (3rd & in 2nd place in the previous DIGIMADO tournament)
Thoughts after playing the NekuOda demo:
  • Enemy Digimon are very fast on their feet.
  • When giving a Digimon meat, or praising them, you can see their evolution conditions? I was able to evolve to Seadramon, Tyrannomon, and Garurumon.
  • The Digimon's response time for each command is short.
From DigiKz
I could play for 5 minutes. You could choose between playing as either the male protagonist Takuto or the female protagonist Shiki. This time, I thought that the male protagonist seemed like the #1 candidate for main character, but because Shiki-chan seemed pretty nice, I selected her. If I buy the game, I think I'll probably begin as her.

In the demo you were thrown into an unknown grassland without explanation. Your partners [as Shiki] were Piyomon and Palmon (this time they apparently train simultaneously). If you chose Takuto it seems your partners were Agumon and Gabumon (I went with Keichi-san and saw him play as Takuto). For the time being, I walked around and encountered Goblimon. We rushed right into battle.

The battle system was autobattle, I didn't understand it well but it seems you told the Digimon what techs to use with the L & R buttons. You cheered with the O button, I don't know what kind of numerical value it increases. Anyway, we somehow won (because it's a demo). Beating Goblimon took a while because of how slow they go down. After winning a battle, it seems you could praise the Digimon (but I was able to battle without a relationship to them). When in the menu screen, Shiki-chan called over Piyo and Pal to the menu display. It felt like it took a little while. While the menu screen was up, the 5-minute timer stopped. However, in going through the menu you could only use items, you couldn't see the Digimon's individual status. I wonder if this feature was restricted for trial play? Even so, it really wasn't for the best, just battling Goblimon running through the grasslands. The trial version was honestly not that fun...

You also couldn't advance to other zones. Digitama were omitted, and before I could approach another Goblimon, time was up. I think it would have been a little more fun if I had more time with the demo. At the end, I received Dot Agumon and Gabumon stickers.

-next 0rder-'s Antagonist is Mass Producing Mugendramon

December 18th, 2015. Famitsu's web edition published a new article today discussing several recent developments in Digimon World -next 0rder-; among them the mysterious man that greatly resembles the first Digimon World protagonist. According to the most recent story blurb (translated below), Digimon in -next 0rder- are transforming into copies of Mugendramon, and just as the protagonists learn the truth, this mystery man appears before them. The Mugendramon subplot seems to follow directly from a postgame quest in the original Digimon World, in which antagonist Analogman created a curse that would turn wild Digimon into Mugendramon copies, allowing him to get revenge on the player character. Screenshots are provided below.
Story: 3
The protagonists learn that in truth the Digimon living in the Digimon World [sic] transform into Mugendramon because of their "different configuration." But they still have no clue of how to address that problem... Just then, the "Executor" giving off a strange aura, and a man with a piercing gaze in a black knitwear cap materialize, and the story enters a new phase...!
The article also discusses the newly-introduced ExE-volution, and shows the previously-revealed Agnimon battling Lucemon Falldown Mode, highlighting the appearance of Frontier Digimon in the game. ExE-volution is -next 0rder-'s unique Jogress system, which allows two Digimon in critical condition to combine with the player character and themselves using the Digimon virtual pet on the player's wrist.
New System
The new system "ExE-volution," or "ExE" for short! It's a miraculous evolution created through the power of one's bonds with their partners.
Famitsu reposted the official character profile for the mysterious man found on the title site.

"...Failed again, huh."
Wrapped entirely in riddles, a man with a piercing gaze that wears a black knitwear cap. The Digitama he holds in his hand has some meaning...
A copy of Agnimon's Digimon Reference Book profile is posted in the article as well;
Agnimon from Digimon Frontier appears!
A Digimon that possesses power over Flame which bears the might of one of the legendary Ten Warriors. Because its "Digicore" is wrapped in the Spiritual Fire which is called a holy blaze, it is able to freely manipulate flames. It is an incarnation of the "Firewall" that defends the Net, and is a guardian deity. Because of its easily fired-up personality, it has a soldier-like aspect that practices mental training with yoga exercises, and its way of speaking is somewhat archaic, like a kenpo artist. In battle, it fights by freely using Oriental martial arts, and accumulates flames at one point of its body with a trick that focuses its spirit, to raise its offensive ability. Its Special Moves are unleashing a blazing dragon from its flame-clad fist (Burning Salamander), and unleashing a whirlwind kick of flames (Salamander Break).
Digimon World -next 0rder- will launch in Japan on the PlayStation Vita on March 17th, 2016. Its opening theme song will be performed by singer Aoi Eir.

Digimon World -next 0rder- Launches March 17th, Susanoomon to Join the Roster

December 15th, 2015. According to Japanese fans that have acquired early copies of this month's issue of V Jump magazine, this newest issue includes the final release date and preorder content for Digimon World -next 0rder-, which will launch in Japan on March 17th, 2016. Last month's issue showed a new antagonist greatly resembling the original main character of Digimon World, popularly known in the west by his fan name "Hiro," and in Japan as "Analog Boy" (アナログ少年 Anarogu Shounen).

-next 0rder- Site Adds ???'s Profile

November 20th, 2015. The Digimon World -next 0rder- title site has updated with the profile of the game's latest character, the unidentified young man theorized to be Digimon World's protagonist. (Known as "Analog Boy" and "Hero" in fan circles.) Previously introduced in this month's issue of V Jump magazine alongside the "EXE"-Volution system, the character remains unnamed, but is evidently partnered to Mugendramon.

Digimon World -next 0rder- will launch in Japan on the PlayStation Vita in 2016.

Habu Kazumasa: "The Passion of Our Fans Gave Us a Lot of Strength"

November 19th, 2015. In a recent interview with Todd Ciolek of Anime News Network, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth producer Habu Kazumasa explained his decision making process behind the game. Habu has been the producer for Digimon games since 2008, around the era of Digimon Championship on the Nintendo DS. Being directed at both nostalgic fans and newcomers to the franchise, Habu chose the Story series for its easy-to-get-into features, and drew ideas from the franchise's original line of digital toys.

According to Habu, Cyber Sleuth was influenced by new technology and current discussions about virtual reality. He focused on including the most iconic Digimon to the game while introducing almost no new monsters, as opposed to forcing in all of the currently existing one-thousand-plus Digimon. Habu explained that the English version of the game's long-anticipated Hard Mode  will be available from the moment the player starts the game, while the New Game Plus feature will be available after one complete run of Sleuth. He also alluded to modifications made to the strength of certain Digimon's skills, potentially rebalancing a somewhat skewed metagame.

“The localized version of Cyber Sleuth was approved because of a passionate campaign run by fans that had a petition signed by 65,000 people. [...] When we found out we were so cheered that we decided to bring a localized Cyber Sleuth to North America.”
As in previous interviews, Habu emphasized the power of Operation Decode's massive fan petition in persuading Bandai to localize the game. The producer also touched on the idea of making "toys and animation based on this narrative and world," but the success of the game overseas is Bandai's first priority.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth will launch on the PlayStation Vita and PS4 in North America on February 2nd, 2016, and in Europe on February 5th, 2016.

European Cyber Sleuth Release Date, DLC Confirmed for Vita

November 19th, 2015. The European Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth stream has just confirmed that Cyber Sleuth's European release date will be on February 5th, 2016, three days after its American counterpart. In addition, the stream has also confirmed that the preorder DLC will be available digitally for both the PlayStation 4 and PSVita, as well as on physical copies of the game.

The stream is currently ongoing, and fans can win small Digimon plush toys by tweeting the phrase "I'm watching @BandaiNamcoEU's Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth livestream! I want to win goodies!" Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth will launch in English on the PlayStation Vita, PSTV, and PlayStation 4 on February 2nd, 2016, in North America, and February 5th, 2016, in Europe.

2:30 PM EST Update: The stream has concluded. The peak viewer count was 583, more than 400 below the target goal. The big Agumon plush will instead be given out at a subsequent Cyber Sleuth stream, held in the months leading up to the game's February release. Stream hosts Issad and Juliet also confirmed that the game's online multiplayer modes will be retained for the western release.

Bandai Giving Away Agumon, Other Plushies at Cyber Sleuth Livestream on the 19th

November 16th, 2015. Bandai Namco UK announced over Twitter that they will be hosting a second Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth livestream this Thursday, in which they show off the progress of the game's English-language localization. Unlike in the previous stream, this time Bandai Namco will be giving away three Digimon plush toys, featuring Agumon, Gabumon, and Palmon. The stream will take place on their Twitch channel at 7 PM Central European Time/7 AM Eastern Standard Time on November 19th, 2015. The preceding stream drew some concern for its inconsistent and incomplete translation status, but Bandai later assured fans over Twitter that this was not the final script on display.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth will launch in English on the PlayStation Vita, PSTV, and PlayStation 4 on February 2nd, 2016.

11/18/15 Update: The stream has been moved to 6 PM Greenwich Mean Time/1 PM Eastern Standard Time.
